Experience Report Darlyn Lüdcke
Former wholesale and export specialist apprentice (specializing in foreign trade) at Bomin Tanklager Hamburg GmbH & Co. KG
Now an administrative employee in the aviation fuelling division at Skytanking GmbH & Co. KG
Why did you choose us for an apprenticeship?
After earning my university entrance certificate, I was looking for a commercial apprenticeship at a company that offers opportunities for getting to know a lot of different sectors, and with an international setup. I had never heard of the activities of Marquard & Bahls AG and its subsidiaries. Getting to know all the different areas, such as marine or aviation fuelling in a wide range of countries immediately appealed to me.
How would you describe our company and culture?
In a company like Marquard & Bahls AG you have so many opportunities, even during your apprenticeship. You are given a warm welcome everywhere, no matter which company or department, or what location or country. The employees take a lot of time to answer questions and explain processes. You are gradually given more and more responsibility, your own tasks, and depending on the time, you are given various projects to work on.
What do you like most about your work or your apprenticeship with us?
I liked the fact that I was able to see so much during my training. I started at the Oiltanking tank terminal. In my first month, for example, I worked outside on the facility. I also went through all the Bomin Germany departments in Hamburg - from trading and accounting to credit risk management. I was given an opportunity to support trading at Bomin in London, and eventually ended up at the Head Office of Skytanking D-A-CH (Germany, Austria & Switzerland).
