Energy Trading

Mabanaft is a leading independent and integrated energy company. Mabanaft offers its customers innovative energy solutions for their transportation, heating and industrial needs. In addition, the company is active in trading with petroleum products, natural gas liquids and biofuels.

The sales volume in 2020 was approx. 16.5 million tons. In Germany alone, Mabanaft handles approx. 2,100 barge tours annually. End of 2020, around 1,400 employees worked for Mabanaft and its subsidiaries.

Supply, Infrastructure & Trading

The business unit Supply, Infrastructure & Trading covers all regional trading activities incl. infrastructure and logistics. In northwestern Europe, Mabanaft is a leading independent importer and wholesaler of petroleum products. Mabanaft Deutschland supplies its customers with heating oil, diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, marine fuels, and biofuels, while in Singapore, Mabanaft concentrates on the physical trading of gasoil, and fuel oil in Asia. Mabanaft Energy Trading Inc., based in Houston, Texas, is responsible for the supply and trading of middle distillates and other refined products in North and Latin America.


The business unit Marketing covers all end-consumer business in transportation, heating and industrial. In the UK, Mabanaft Limited, London, mainly trades kerosene, diesel, and jet fuel. Mabanaft Hungary operates a wholesale business in Hungary from Budapest.

Under the Petronord umbrella, 35 retail companies in Germany, Austria and Sweden supply their customers with diesel fuel and gasoline, lubricants and bitumen, depending on the focus of their business. They also serve as energy partners for heating oil, natural gas and electricity. In the United Kingdom, BWOC is active in sales of petroleum products to end-consumers. Furthermore, BWOC and Thomas Silvey each run a fuel-card business.

Through its subsidiaries, Mabanaft has an extensive network with more than 600 service stations in Europe: OIL! Tankstellen operates about 340 service stations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Denmark. In Hungary, another 40 OIL! stations are operated under a franchise system. The approximately 240 automated service stations that the Petronord Group operates for commercial trucking fleets are part of the pan-European “tankpool24” network of service stations, and thus provide comprehensive supply coverage for commercial road transport.

Houston-based Bomin Bunker Oil Corp. is an established physical supplier of marine fuels with operations in Houston and surrounding US Gulf ports, Norfolk, Virginia, Panama (both Balboa and Cristobal) and Ecuador. The business portfolio covers activities ranging from the supply of bunker fuels to lubricants and other services to the shipping industry. 

New Energy, Chemicals & Gas

The business unit New Energy, Chemicals & Gas is responsible for building low carbon businesses and innovative new offerings. The business unit acts as an incubator for lower carbon/sustainable offerings, scouts new technologies and leads continuous innovation processes:

  • PTL (synthetic) e-fuels innovation and future supply
  • Hydrogen opportunities 
  • Sustainable Aviation Fuels
  • Drop-in biofuels
  • Other alternative low carbon fuels
  • Chemicals: ammonia trading and supply, participation in GCA Ammonia project (Texas City, USA)
  • Gas: trading, supply and project development for NGLs and their derivatives from the Mabanaft offices in London and Singapore
