Mabanaft to Supply Jet Fuel to Oslo Airport
MESAS has secured access to the storage and throughput of Jet A-1 aviation fuel at the Ekeberg/ Sjursøya terminal, as well as distribution to OSL. In line with the strict regulations governing aviation fuel quality, the accredited laboratory of Circle K will be providing analytical services to ensure that all Jet A-1 meets the Aviation Fuel Quality Requirements for Jointly Operated Systems in full. In addition, a new into-plane provider began providing services for MESAS on July 1, 2020 and will thus ensure further competition at the airport. The company set up a station at Oslo airport and is ready to refuel all Norwegian and Lufthansa aircraft, on- and off-hydrant.
Introducing a new player and establishing a new supply and distribution chain is seen as a step towards building a better fuel supply for Avinor, the airport operator, and the airlines that fly from OSL. Norway has stringent guidelines regarding aviation fuel obligations, including annual increases in bio blends. MESAS is working to fulfil these obligations and provide a solution for airline companies by blending Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into Jet A-1.
Toby Simmons, the General Manager of MESAS, said: “We are delighted to be able now to start supplying jet fuel to Oslo airport. The project was initiated in early 2018, and we have invested significantly, both in terms of time and money. We believe that improving the fuel supply to the airport will be of significant benefit to the airport and the airlines. Now that stage one of the project is complete, we can continue to progress stage two, which includes investing in new rail supply infrastructure, to help meet the demand for jet fuel and improving sustainability by using the latest technology. Together with Oslo, Mabanaft currently supplies 14 airports in Great Britain and Norway.“
