In 2016, IndianOil Skytanking identified a need for support at the public lower primary school in the village of Yerappanahalli in the rural region in Bangalore, India: Literacy in the village is very low. The villagers traditionally rely on agriculture, floriculture and horticulture for their livelihood, so education is not generally a priority.

IndianOil Skytanking, in co-ordination with the Education Department of Devanahalli, decided to assist the public school and further the education of the village’s children by building additional classrooms and associated facilities. New classrooms, a dining and reading room, a kitchen, a toilet block for boys and girls, and a stage on the school premises were constructed. IndianOil Skytanking also carried out minor repairs at the existing school building and did some (re-)painting.

In February 2017, this rural education development project was successfully completed and officially unveiled by the school authorities. In all, IndianOil Skytanking supported the construction works with about EUR 70,000, assistance that was greatly appreciated by the public authorities, the school’s management and, of course, the villagers themselves.
